Frequently asked questions
Short answers about Pixel Relay, Meta, privacy, installation and accounts.
About the relay
Do I still need the Meta Pixel?
No. Pixel Relay sends events to Meta from the server through the Conversions API, so the browser never talks to Meta. If you keep the pixel for other reasons, stop it from sending the same events, or Meta receives them twice.
Does it slow my site down?
No. The tracker is a small script loaded with async, cached for an hour, and sends events in the background in batches.
What happens if Pixel Relay is unreachable?
The tracker keeps unsent events in the page and tries again on the next send. Events from a page the visitor closes during an outage can be lost; your site itself keeps working.
Privacy
What does Meta receive?
The Meta event name, the cleaned page address, hashed customer details if you sent any, the browser's user agent, Meta's own click and browser IDs, the event's value and currency, and the visitor's IP address only if the website forwards it. See What the relay removes.
Do you store visitors' personal data?
The relay keeps a 90-day event log with cleaned addresses, a keyed hash of each IP address and the browser's user agent. It never stores raw IP addresses, full addresses, referrers, emails, phone numbers or names. See What Pixel Relay stores.
Does this make my site compliant with health privacy law?
It reduces what Meta receives, which is what most guidance asks for. Whether that is enough depends on your business and your law. Check your obligations with your compliance team.
Setup
Can one website send to two Meta pixels?
Not from one website in Pixel Relay. Add the site twice, once per pixel, and put both snippets on the site.
Can one pixel receive events from several websites?
Yes. Add each site as its own website with the same Pixel ID and token, or list all their domains on one website.
Does it work with Google Tag Manager?
Yes. Put the snippet in a Custom HTML tag on All Pages, and fire PixelRelayTracker.track() from your conversion tags.
Account
How do I get an account?
Send a request from the Request access page. Accounts are set up by our team.
I cannot change a setting. Why?
Your account team decides what your login may change. Settings you cannot change are greyed out. Ask them to change it for you, or to give you the permission.
