Two-factor authentication
Protect your login with a code from an authenticator app, and keep recovery codes for when you lose your phone.
With two-factor authentication on, logging in needs your password and a 6-digit code from an app on your phone. Someone who learns your password still cannot get in.
You need an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password or Authy.
- Step 1: In Settings, open Two-factor authentication.
- Step 2: Enter your password. Security settings always ask for it again.
- Step 3: Click Confirm.
- Step 4: Click Turn on two-factor.
- Step 5: Scan the QR code with an authenticator app, or type the setup key into it.
- Step 6: Click Continue.
- Step 7: Enter the 6-digit code the app shows, then click Confirm. Keep the recovery codes somewhere safe.
Turn it on
- Open Settings from your name in the top right, then Two-factor authentication.
- Enter your password and click Confirm.
- Click Turn on two-factor.
- Scan the QR code with your app, or type the setup key into it. Click Continue.
- Enter the 6-digit code the app shows and click Confirm.
Save your recovery codes
Once it is on, click Show recovery codes and save them somewhere safe, like your password manager. Each code works once, instead of an app code. Make new codes replaces them all.
Logging in
After your password, enter the code from the app. Lost your phone? Click Use a recovery code instead and enter one of your recovery codes, then turn two-factor off and on again with your new phone.
Turn it off
Open Two-factor authentication and click Turn off two-factor.
