Events are missing in Meta

Work out where events stop between your site, Pixel Relay and Meta, and fix the most common causes.

Find out how far the events get, then fix the step where they stop.

1. Do they reach Pixel Relay?

Open the website's analytics, Event log tab, and visit your site.

  • Your events appear as Delivered: Pixel Relay did its part. Go to step 3.
  • They appear as Failed: Meta refused them. Go to step 2.
  • Nothing appears: the browser is not reaching the relay. Check these, in order:
    1. The snippet is on the page. View the page source and search for pixelrelay.
    2. The settings block PixelRelayTrackerConfig comes before the tracker script. If not, the tracker loads but never starts.
    3. The website is not paused, in Websites.
    4. The page's domain is on the website's allowed domains. A new domain, or a staging site, returns Origin not allowed.
    5. With debug: true, the console shows why a send failed. See Check the installation.

2. Meta refuses them

Open Failed to deliver from the dashboard. Meta's message says what is wrong; most often the access token has expired or the Pixel ID does not match the token. See Failed events.

3. Delivered, but not in Meta's reports

  • Wrong pixel. Check the website's Pixel ID is the one your ad account uses.
  • Not mapped. An event with no mapping reaches Meta as a code like evt_a1b2c3d4, not as Lead. The Event log shows the Meta event each one was sent as.
  • Not yet. Meta's Overview can lag by 20 minutes, and ads reporting by a day.
  • Test events tab. Live events never appear there. Only Send test event on the website's settings page does, with a test event code.
  • Counted twice, then removed. If Meta's own pixel also sends the same event, Meta may drop one of them. Remove the duplicate pixel event.

Some events missing

  • Rate limit. A page that fires many events in a minute can hit the website's rate limit. Raise it a little in Privacy and limits.
  • Monthly limit. If your account has an event allowance and it is used up, every event is refused until the next month. Your account team can raise it.
  • Ad blockers. Some block every tracking script, including this one. Nothing on the site can change that for those visitors.
